Teaching is a key component of most musicians’ professional lives. But it comes with great responsibilities; as much as a good teacher will bring untold joy and inspiration to their students, a bad one can cause life-long psychological harm.
This set of classes explores the myriad of skills and sensibilities that a teacher requires. By investigating historical traditions, reflecting upon their relevance and appropriateness to the students of today, and establishing core principles, we aspire to help budding teachers deepen their knowledge and understanding of pedagogy. Underlining everything is our desire to ensure that future generations of music students have access to positive, healthy learning environments, in which the pursuit of excellence does not come at the expense of their wellbeing.
